Hi. I’m Sean, a progressive campaigner in Brussels with my finger on the pulse.

With experience that spreads from organising civil disobedience to being an elected representative in the Council of Europe, my 10 years of changemaking across Europe gives me a fresh perspective and an intimate understanding of social change from the grassroots up to institutions. Through continually evolving evidence and a tried-and-tested framework, I help nonprofits and movements develop strategies that break through the noise to mobilise communities and influence institutions.

Mobilised into activism

An angry teenager living under the poverty line, I’m driven into the Scottish independence campaign by a utopian vision of social justice. I get trained as an Internet Representative. I’m hooked. Scotland votes no to independence. Distraught, I race to Glasgow to study politics, where I specialise in researching social change strategies.

The climate strike movement explodes

I’m studying in Germany, where the movement is biggest. Co-founding Students for Future, I see how much activists in different countries could learn from each other. This drives me to educational seminars across Europe, co-founding the Activist Handbook wiki, and organising a 5-day seminar for social movement organisers at the European Youth Centre.

How can the grassroots put pressure on the European Union?

I’m stumped. At all the workshops, meetings, and protests I attend, nobody can answer this question. I rush to Sciences Po Paris to study European Affairs, looking for the answer. I get a job for the climate education nonprofit Climate Fresk. I build a community of hundreds of climate education advocates for COP26. The EU continues to confuse me.

From amateur organiser to professional trainer

Desperate to sink my teeth into campaigning as a dayjob, I accept an internship at Campaign Accelerator. I’m given lead responsibility for communications and community organising. They coach me into a professional trainer and consultant.

A campaigner, finally at the European level

I move to Brussels and I’m elected Co-spokesperson of the Young European Greens (FYEG). Operating as a bridge between European institutions and grassroots campaigning, we grow from strength to strength. To my mum’s delight, I publish a chapter in a book about the just transition. I launch as a freelancer.

Today, I live in Brussels with my wife. I campaign with the grassroots network Stay Grounded, co-lead the Young European Greens, and represent Europe’s young people in the Council of Europe. I am always ready to deliver change by working with clients on high-potential projects.
